This is a detail from a wallpaper pattern book from the 1890’s. Beautiful scrolling vines crawling up the walls of castles and stately homes would have been elevated by bringing the forest indoors. At the time fabric patterns were achieved by labour-intensive tapestry and embroidery, so wallpaper was a great way to introduce colour and design to homes ♥
