I always have brightly coloured toenails ♥ It’s kind of my thing. It’s very strange for me to head out into the world with naked toes. When I was in Hawaii I got one bottle of Pop nail polish and it has been the longest lasting and brilliantly bright polish I’ve ever had. I only redo my toenails when they’ve grown out too much to look pretty anymore as it doesn’t chip. I have tried to buy them online but they always sell out of the best colours or they won’t post to Australia. So feel free to buy, send or give me the best bright, fluoro or out there coloured nail polish. Life is too short to be boring 😛

I want a pile of money ♥ I don’t often bow down at the altar of money but with a big family trip coming up I really do want a big fat pile of money 😛 It’s not that I want an endless pit of money to spend for the rest of my life, I just want to have an awesome holiday and to be able to indulge in a few cultural experiences. While money does not make you happy, it does afford you freedom and I want to have a free and awesome and happy holiday! I will be buying a lottery ticket… just in case.

Those who know me well, know that I love to cook. Home cooking is always best. I love soft tortillas and I always have some ready to go but I would like to make my own. I don’t really see myself rolling out every tortilla and I love the idea of having a tortilla maker. You plop a ball of dough in the centre and splat, squash it down into the perfect thin tortilla ready for cooking ♥ What a brilliant adventure.

I don’t use anti ageing products or skin products for mature skin but I was given a sample of this Sisley cream and without knowing anything about it I started using it. IT WAS AMAZING ♥ After a couple of days my skin was amazing… super soft, even and firm. This cream smells so beautiful it’s a joy to use. I need to sell a lot of drawings in the new year to get my hands on a tub of this. It’s truly beautiful and totally worth it… because, I’m worth it LOL!

I’m not as into jewellery now as I once was but I still love earrings. I adore stud earrings and I always want just a couple more. In stark contrast to my youth, I now love small earrings and it’s often a case of the smaller the better ♥ I can’t get the super cheap ones as I’m allergic to most metals so I have to get Sterling Silver or Stainless Steel. I am amassing a pretty good collection of cute studs.

When I planned to draw this poster (I found the reference image in Google Images) I had hope that the crossbench was in with a chance of effecting change for the refugees currently being abused by the Australian Government. Yesterday our “prime minister” Scomo (my mother calls him Scamo) closed parliament early to block any chance of the refugees being released from their endless hell on Nauru. I applaud the efforts of the independents led by Professor Kerryn Phelps to end their suffering. Here’s hoping their nightmares will end soon.

I know this sounds a bit greedy but I want more pencils. I have loads of pencils… probably more than most. For my birthday this year, I got the full set of Prismacolor pencils that I have used every day this year. I love having the full complement of colours at my disposal but being the greedy guts that I am… I WANT MORE. I’m hungry for the full set of Faber Castell Polychromos pencils as the colours are slightly different and the texture of the lead is more oily making it easier to blend. When it comes to pencils, I am a megalomaniac… I WANT THEM ALL ♥

This is a pretty common desire ♥ I do have an iPad but it’s old and it’s not great for drawing. I am dying to get an iPad Pro with the pencil so I can draw straight into the iPad. I see a lot of artists working in this manner and I really want to start doing a lot of my prep work straight into a device… it would save a couple of steps on every project. Heres to more creativity… and maybe a few games as well 😛

I love whisky – and that’s a good thing because I can’t drink any other alcohol… at least not without serious food intolerance consequences. There are so many different whiskeys out there for me to try. I haven’t tried Lark whiskey yet but I’d like to. There are a lot of great Tasmanian whiskeys available now… and it’s not just a hipster thing. I intend to make 2019 the year of new whiskeys ♥ I’ll take mine with two ice cubes thanks. Bottoms up!

I love music… it’s no secret. I have recently been wanting to listen to music (and my podcasts) in more places. While I have a Sonos in my office I want a more portable solution. My bro-in-law recently got an Ultimate Ears Boom 3 and it’s really cool. Super portable, wireless, 360 sound, waterproof and drop proof. Considering how often I drop things, this is the speaker for me. I also love the idea that I can chuck it in the pool ♥ How gorgeous is this colour ultraviolet purple.

I want more original artworks in my life, hanging on my walls, feeding my eyes and filling my mind with joy. There is a magic that comes from living with original art – not prints – that is hard to describe. I want to fill my home with beautiful works by Australian artists. Perhaps my favourite painting in 2018 is Queenstown, Tasmania by Christian Bonett (62 x 72 cm oil on board). It was a finalist in the Wynne Prize 2018. I love the gorgeous areas of flat colour and the beautiful clean colour pallet ♥

With the Silly Season fast approaching, I thought it would be fun to draw all of the things I could ever dream of for Christmas.

I don’t actually like many fragrances… they are always too overpowering or floral [insert choking sound effect]. A few years ago my Godmother bought me a Balenciaga perfume and I was worried that I wouldn’t like it. She was spot on. I adored it and I have worn Balenciaga ever since ♥ After a few years my mum gave me the Balenciaga Florabotanica fragrance I love it just as much. It has become my signature scent. The bottle is so pretty and it adds a nice splash of colour to my bedside table. What is your favourite fragrance?

With Christmas fast approaching I could not do this theme without doing a Christmas album. The only problem is that I couldn’t decide which one… so I chose 3!

Ella Wishes You a Swinging Christmas was released in 1960. The beautiful songbird Ella Fitzgerald recorded this album with a studio orchestra conducted by Frank DeVol. I love how unconventional the album artwork is… it’s a strange painterly horse in long grass… what this has to do with Christmas is beyond me. The horse looks a bit blotto… perhaps he’s had too much Christmas cheer ♥ With classics like White Christmas and Frosty the Snowman, this album is a must this Christmas.

A Very Special Christmas was released in 1987 to raise money for the Special Olympics (now called the Paralympic Games). It was very successful, raising millions of dollars. The cover artwork is so iconic and instantly recognisable as Keith Haring’s work. It is still one of the best selling Christmas albums of all time ♥ With songs by Whitney Houston, Madonna and The Pointer Sisters it’s no wonder it was such a smashing success.

A Christmas Album by JD McPherson is yet to be released… it’s coming out on 2 November 2018 and features 10 new Christmas songs to rock out to. I have not heard the whole album but the song Socks, about the disappointment of receiving socks for Christmas, has a fantastic Elvis vibe to it. JD is an American singer-songwriter and guitarist from Oklahoma and is known for his retro rockabilly rhythm and blues sound that could be straight out of the 1950s. I’ll be adding these fun new festive tracks to my Christmas playlist (and I won’t be giving anyone socks). I actually fell in love with the album artwork… so simple and yet it says so much. Divine  ♥

Faith, the album, was a revelation. It was the first solo album for former Wham frontman George Michael and was released in 1987. I loved George in Wham but Faith propelled him to straight into the limelight and into my teenage dreams. The film clips, music, album art and George himself were utterly fantastic. It was a masterpiece. Not sure if you can tell, but I really love George Michael ♥ The album won many awards, had many hit singles and still has a place in my top 5 albums of all time. With tracks like Faith, Father Figure, I Want Your Sex (Parts 1 & 2) and Kissing a Fool… I spent many hours performing in my lounge room with my hairbrush microphone to imaginary audiences of thousands. I can still remember my killer moves. A thirteen-year-old Cecilia didn’t really know what George was doing in this photo, taken by English photographer Russell Young… was he hiding from the camera? sniffing his armpit? no one knew… but I did know that I wanted George. This album made me pay attention to boys and at the top of my love list was George Michael ♥♥♥

Island Life by Grace Jones as a firm favourite in our eighties household. It was a compilation album of her best songs from the first 9 years of her musical career and for me it was an introduction to the goddess that is Grace Jones. I remember the Australian LP was a double album with a bonus 12″ containing amazing tracks like My Jamaican Guy, Pull up to the Bumper and Warm Leatherette. The cover image was created by Grace’s then partner Jean-Paul Goude and was cut and pasted together from different images. This is so well done considering this was pre-photoshop. In 1986 a 12 year old Cecilia was fascinated with a photo of Grace with her brother in a French apartment… they are both naked, facing each other, wearing berets and holding glasses of red wine. So cookie and so Grace Jones ♥

The Rolling Stones are such an iconic band in so many ways. Their impact on artwork, music, film clips, dance moves and ageing has been epic. This album cover is not that well known… it’s from the Spanish release of the 7″ EP Called The Rolling Stones that was released in 1965. It contained the tracks Satisfaction, Off The Hook, Little Red Rooster and The Under Assistant West Coast Promotion Man (weird title). The graphic quality of these multicoloured monotone portraits is gorgeous… I’m wondering what else I can apply this technique to… simple and gorgeous ♥ The artwork is attributed to someone called Botia but I can’t find out anything about them.

Graceland was the 7th solo album for Paul Simon, a great Amercian musician who was originally the Simon half of Simon & Garfunkle (a band I love for their use of the name Cecilia in popular music). Graceland was released in 1986 and was a commercial success. He had had some personal and commercial troubles including a marriage breakdown and during a period of depression, he became obsessed with a bootleg cassette of South African township music. He visited Johannesburg and recorded with a bunch of African musicians. This album was a huge hit when I was a kid and with songs like Graceland, Diamonds on the soles of her shoes and You can call me Al is it any wonder it is now a classic ♥ It won the 1987 Grammy Award for Album of the Year and often appears in best album lists.

I had forgotten that comedy albums are a thing. I remember friends obsessively listening to comedy albums, copying them onto tape and listening to them in the car while we drove our teenage selves around looking for adventure. Monty Python was a massive hit. Life of Brian was the second soundtrack album and was released in 1979 and came out at the same time as the film. It was very controversial at the time – as are most popular comedy acts – and was banned in Ireland. At the time a priest said, “Anybody who buys the record and finds it funny must have something wrong with their mentality”. Judging by this, I must be a wrongen because I find it hilarious ♥

I loved Prince Rogers Nelson from the moment I first heard his music. He was elegant, eclectic, strange, highly sexual, ambiguous, ahead of his time and incredibly extravagant. He wore makeup, occasionally sang in a falsetto voice and challenged what it means to be a man in modern America and the world. I was lucky to see him live in concert a couple of times and they rank as some of the best concerts of my life. Such a stupidly talented man… he was too sensitive and creative to survive in this world. Go and play some Prince… he is food for your ears, mind and your soul. I also loved his visual aesthetic and his album covers really evoked the music contained within the crystal case ♥ Parade was his 8th studio album… it contained the hit Kiss and was the soundtrack to the movie Under the Cherry Moon that was directed by and starred Prince.

Monk is an iconic jazz album released by jazz pianist and composer Thelonious Monk in 1956. Monk had a unique and loose improvisational style. He is responsible for creating some instantly recognisable jazz standards like Blue Monk, Straight, No Chaser and Ruby, My Dear. The album artwork was designed by the incredibly prolific and innovative Andy Warhol. He was a freelance designer at the Prestige jazz label where he designed this cover. Warhol did the typography but like any hard working mummy’s boy, his mum did the calligraphy. It’s so simple and stylish and would not be out of place today  ♥
